Glamorgan Heritage Coast

Green oak frames, cut and pegged on the Welsh coast.

We're a workshop at Llandow, near Cowbridge, framing in green oak the way it's always been done — mortise and tenon, oak pegs, curved braces. Garden rooms, garages, porches and orangeries, plus gates, carpentry and engraved oak.

Why the frame matters

Three things that decide whether a building is still here in a hundred years.

Two oak tenons cut on the ends of beams, laid on trestles, each drilled with draw-bore peg holes.

Jointed, not bolted

Every frame is draw-bored mortise and tenon, pegged in oak. No brackets, no bolts, nothing that rusts or works loose. As the oak seasons the joints pull tighter, which is why frames built this way are still standing after four hundred years.

Chisels, a steel square and a shaped oak rail laid out on a plywood scribing floor covered in layout lines.

A workshop, not a van

Frames are cut dry and to a line at Llandow, then raised in your garden in days. Less weather in the timber, less mess in your garden, and tighter tolerances than anything cut on site.

Structures are what we do

Years building climbing walls: engineered timber structures that get loaded, get hammered daily, and have to be signed off. Your building gets the same thinking, and the same attention to what happens in thirty years.

How it works

Five steps, from a phone call to a raised frame.

  1. 1

    Talk it through

A call or a message. Tell us roughly what you want and where it's going.

  2. 2

    We come and measure

A site visit across the Vale, Bridgend and Cardiff. No charge, no pressure.

  3. 3

    Drawings and a fixed price

A proper drawing, and a price that doesn't move unless you change your mind.

  4. 4

    Cut in the workshop

Machined, jointed and dry-fitted at Llandow while your garden stays yours.

  5. 5

    Raised, and then some

Put up, cleared up, and we pick up the phone afterwards.

Planning permission

Most garden rooms in Wales don't need it. We design to keep it that way.

Permitted development sets height, position and footprint limits for outbuildings. We design to those limits when that's what you want, and tell you plainly when what you're asking for goes past them — because a bigger room, an annexe, or anything you intend to sleep in usually does.
